Retirement Savings Confidence Barometer: September - October 2012

Key figures:

  • 47% are confident of reaching their goals, among those who are saving, plan to save or expect to have an additional income in retirement,
  • 71% have never considered the savings target they need to achieve their chosen additional weekly income in retirement.
  • Among those who have not considered their savings target, 40% are confident, compared to those who have thought about their target, of whom 65% are confident.
  • 64% of those surveyed are saving for retirement.
  • 34% are not currently in a savings scheme, 29% of these expect to source their retirement income from other sources like selling their business, an investment property or an inheritance.
  • 5% said they intend to live solely on NZ Superannuation in retirement.
  • 54% of men are confident compared to 41% of women.
